Artist Biography :

Ashley Bohne (she/her) is a fiber and metal artist working out of Milwaukee, WI. Graduating in 2023 with a BFA with a dual focus in Fiber and Jewelry and Metalsmithing from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, her love for fiber and interest in female-dominated craft began at a young age when she learned how to sew from her grandma. She works with fiber and metal and uses traditional ways of making (weaving, metal fabrication, sewing, enameling) as a way to encourage ideas of self-sustainability. Her work explores the longevity of handcraft and the continuation of generational knowledge through documentation of personal histories.

Her work has been displayed in multiple group exhibitions at the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee, including Crossing Over, 49th and 50th Annual Juried Shows, Sophomore/Junior scholarship competitions, Makers 21!, Makers22! And Makers!23 Annual Juried Student exhibitions, as well as Woven Images. Beyond the university, her work was included in the group exhibition High Fibers at the Jazz Art Gallery in Milwaukee, WI as well as the Trout Museum of Art in Appleton, WI. Most notably, in 2023 Ashley was awarded the Windgate-Lamar Fellowship, allowing her to extensively travel worldwide to research the process of flax to linen. She is now working towards growing and harvesting her own flax, using it for local education opportunities and as material for upcoming bodies of work.
